Banish fine lines, get an instant glow and look like you have just gotten a face lift (without having one)? Celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Gwyneth Paltrow have raved about facial acupuncture and seen posting their treatment photos on social media.
Facial acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment of using acupuncture to improve sagging skin, acne, blemishes and other facial conditions. Originating from China, this ancient method has been revived with a vengeance; gaining popularity in the rest of Asia and the West. It is often viewed as a safe alternative to achieve a ‘lifted’, firmer skin compared to invasive surgical procedures such as face lifts.
Acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific meridian points in the body. It functions to stimulate Qi; the body’s vital energy flow; and promote balance and harmony in the body. It is a classic treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat various health issues. In facial acupuncture, it has been adapted to help improve facial conditions.
At PULSE, we use ElectroAcupuncture (EA), a particular facial acupuncture technique whereby a small electric current is passed between pairs of needles. This further amplifies the therapeutic effect of regular acupuncture to bring stronger results.
You also have the option of adding on a Gua Sha treatment (Note: Additional fees apply). Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing technique that involves using a smooth-edged tool made of jade or rose quartz, to scrape or massage the skin. It has gained popularity as a facial beauty treatment.
Acupuncture on the affected area(s), as well as other acupuncture points, depending on the patient’s diagnostic patterns.
Electrodes may be used to increase the effect of regular acupuncture in cases of increased sagging.
A gentle scraping effect to improve blood circulation and muscle tone, and reduce water retention and puffiness, resulting in a rosy hue.
Customised herbal medication may be prescribed according to body condition, which can have a synergistic effect on the treatments performed. Cost is not included in programme fee.
Each session consists of a consultation with our TCM physicians followed by a facial acupuncture treatment.
Individuals are usually be able to see an improvement in glow and some lift immediately after their sessions, especially when combined with other methods like gua sha.
However, we recommend coming for at least 10 sessions or more to experience more significant and longer-lasting changes in skin firmness and definition.
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and most people report barely feeling anything. Some others describe the prick of acupuncture needles as a tingling sensation or pressure around the insertion point. Acupuncture sessions are designed to be relaxing. Many find the process calming or even fall asleep during treatment.
